compression: dense, rapid, fact-heavy sentences. expansion: slower, story-driven, experiential passages. shock: a sudden pattern violation. the cycle must complete at least twice in a 10-minute script or the pacing flatlines.

law 18: never stay in one pacing mode for more than 90 seconds.
