You need a YouTube script written. You have three options.

  • Hire a script writer.
  • Use an AI script writer.
  • Write it yourself.

I've been the hired writer for 10,000+ scripts across 100+ niches, and I built an AI system to do the same job. So I've sat on every side of this. Here's what each one costs you.

The three options, side by side

Option 1: hire a YouTube script writer

A good writer does three jobs: research, angle and words. You're mostly paying for the angle. Anyone can list facts about a topic. Fewer people can find the one way into it that earns a click and holds a viewer for ten minutes.

How to vet one:

  • Ask for a full script, start to finish. A page of hooks tells you nothing about minute six.
  • Ask for the retention graph of the video made from that script.
  • Ask what they cut from the last script they wrote. Good writers cut a lot and can tell you why.
  • Pay for one test script on your own topic before you agree to a batch.

Signs to walk away:

  • Every sample opens with "In today's video" or "Have you ever wondered".
  • Samples that read well on the page and stumble when you say them out loud.
  • A price by the word. Per-word pay rewards padding, and padding is what viewers leave.
  • A draft delivered within an hour of the brief, which usually means a raw AI draft at a writer's price.

The limit of hiring is volume. One writer can only write so much, and each new one takes weeks to learn your channel.

Option 2: use an AI script writer

There are two very different things under this label.

A plain prompt or a script generator. You type a topic and get a script in a minute. It reads fine. It also reads like every other script made the same way, because AI gives the most common answer to each line. I list the tells in why AI YouTube scripts sound like AI.

AI working from a method. The AI is given how a script is researched, structured, written and checked, and it follows that in order. The draft still needs your eye. It starts much closer to finished.

The second kind is what I built. FacelessOS is 22 skill files that load my method into ChatGPT, Claude or any AI that reads files. I compare the two approaches in script generators vs trained script systems.

The limit of AI is judgment. It won't tell you the topic is boring. You still choose the idea and you still read the draft before it's recorded.

Option 3: write it yourself

Do this for your first 10 videos even if you plan to hand it off later.

You can't judge a writer's script or an AI's draft until you've felt where your own scripts lose people. Ten scripts is enough to learn that.

Start with the 5-part script template and the faceless YouTube scripts guide.

The limit is time. A solid 10-minute script takes most people several hours. At three videos a week that's a part-time job.

Which one I'd pick

  • Under 10 videos published: write them yourself.
  • One or two big videos a month, with budget: hire a writer and vet them with the list above.
  • Two or more videos a week: AI with a method, and your own read of every script before it's recorded.

Whichever you choose, the test is the same. Read the script out loud before anyone records it. If you'd stop listening, so will they.

Common questions

What does a YouTube script writer do?

A YouTube script writer researches the topic, picks the angle, and writes every word the viewer hears, from the hook to the close. A good one also plans where viewers are likely to leave and writes to prevent it.

Should I hire a YouTube script writer or use AI?

Hire a writer if you publish a few high-stakes videos a month and can afford to pay per script. Use AI with a real method if you publish often and will read every draft yourself before it is recorded.

How do I know if a YouTube script writer is good?

Ask for a full script and the retention graph of the video made from it. Then pay for one test script on your own topic before you agree to more.

Is an AI YouTube script writer good enough?

A plain prompt gives you an average script, because AI returns the most common answer. AI working from a tested method, with a human check before recording, can produce scripts that hold viewers.
